About the Collection

BMC Psychiatry is calling for submissions to our Borderline personality disorders (BPD): diagnosis, prevention, and treatment Collection. BPD remains a significant public health concern due to its high prevalence, chronicity, and association with self-harm, suicidality, and functional impairment. Research addressing diagnosis, prevention, and treatment is critical to improving outcomes for individuals affected by BPD.

This Collection aims to highlight research that investigates the etiology, diagnosis, and therapeutic approaches for borderline personality disorder. We welcome studies that explore clinical presentations, neurobiological mechanisms, and innovative treatment interventions to inform practice and policy.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • Advances in diagnostic criteria, assessment tools, and biomarkers for BPD
  • Early identification and prevention strategies to mitigate risk factors
  • Pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments and emerging approaches
  • Neurobiological and genetic underpinnings of BPD
  • Comorbidities, including mood disorders, substance use disorders, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
  • Long-term outcomes, relapse prevention, and strategies for sustaining recovery
