BMC Endocrine Disorders invited submissions for our Collection on Autoimmune endocrine disease.

This Collection welcomed research that contributes to advancing knowledge in the field of autoimmune endocrine diseases, with the aim of improving the quality of care provided to affected individuals and contributing to better health outcomes. Autoimmune endocrine diseases are a varied group of diseases affecting a number of endocrine systems, from Type 1 diabetes to Hashimoto's thyroiditis and Addison's disease. However, they all significantly impact the lives of affected individuals and pose unique challenges in diagnosis and management. Research is needed to better understand these disorders' underlying mechanisms and etiology to help improve early diagnosis, develop effective treatments, and provide better patient care.

Alessandro Antonelli, MD, University of Pisa, Italy

Dr Alessandro Antonelli is a Full Professor of Internal Medicine and Director of the School of Specialization of Internal Medicine at the University of Pisa (Italy). He is Director of the Immuno-Endocrine Section of Internal Medicine in the Azienda Ospedaliero-Universitaria Pisana (AOUP) in Pisa. His principal areas of expertise are autoimmune thyroid disorders, systemic autoimmune disorders, thyroid cancer, chemokines and cytokines, cell cultures, type 1 diabetes, and HCV-associated thyroid disorders. His research has been published in more than 450 articles in International Journals (HI=85). He serves as an Editorial Board Member, Referee, and Reviewer of many scientific International Journals.

Dana Liana Stoian, MD, PhD, DSc, FECSM, Victor Babeș University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Romania

Dana Liana Stoian, MD, PhD, DSc, FECSM, is a Professor of Endocrinology at the Department of Endocrinology, Victor Babeș University of Medicine and Pharmacy, Romania. She is a member of the Endocrine Committee of the Romanian Ministry of Health, the National Committee of the Medical Proof and Degree Commission, and the National Council for Attestation of University Degrees, Diplomas, and Certificates (CNATDCU). Since 2014, Dr Stoian has been part of the World Federation of Ultrasound in Medicine and Biology Center of Education (WFUMB COE) in Timisoara, Romania. In daily practice, she has organized numerous postgraduate courses about the thyroid, parathyroid breast ultrasound, and elastography. She has eight books, fourteen book chapters, and more than 100 journal papers to her credit. Dr Stoian is the founder of Dr D Medical Center, Timisoara. Her research interests are Endocrinology, Elastography, Nutrition, Sexology, Endocrine Ultrasonography, Thyroid Endocrinology, and Endocrine Hypertension.

  • Evidence-based treatment strategies and management of autoimmune endocrine diseases.
  • Innovative therapies and interventions to improve the quality of life for those affected.
  • Patient experiences and perspectives on living with autoimmune endocrine diseases. Collaborative and interdisciplinary care models to enhance patient outcomes.
  • The role of emerging technologies and digital health in managing autoimmune endocrine diseases.
  • Addressing disparities and improving access to care for individuals with autoimmune endocrine diseases.
  • Education and training for healthcare providers to effectively manage and support patients with autoimmune endocrine diseases.
