Guest Editor

Le Sun, PhD, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology, China

Submission Status: Open   |   Submission Deadline: 16 July 2025

BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making is calling for submissions to our Collection on Computational approaches for personalized medicine.

Computational techniques and medical informatics have enabled the integration of diverse data sources, including genomic, proteomic, and clinical data, to tailor medical treatments to individual patients. By leveraging machine learning algorithms, big data analytics, and bioinformatics, researchers are developing models that can predict treatment responses, optimize drug dosages, and identify potential adverse effects.

This Collection aims to explore specific computational methodologies and their applications in personalized medicine, highlighting the transformative potential of these technologies in improving patient outcomes.

Over the past few years, she has authored more than 50 papers published in prestigious journals and conferences, including IEEE JSAC, IEEE TNNLS, IEEE TCYB, IEEE TITS, IEEE TSC, Info.Sci., and others. Additionally, she has successfully led and attended several projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China. She actively contributes to the academic community by serving as a reviewer for many internationally recognized journals and conferences, such as PAKDD, ICWS, HISS, and more. She has also been invited to serve as a guest editor and an editorial board member for several SCI journals and EI journals, including IEEE TCE, HISS, EAAI, and Springer Nature. Furthermore, she has applied for and been granted more than 10 Chinese patents. In recognition of her achievements, Dr Sun has received entrepreneurial support from Shaoxing's "Hometown of Celebrities" Talent Program, as well as the 2022 Nanjing Overseas High-level Talent Double First prize in the competition.

About the Collection

BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making is calling for submissions to our Collection on Computational approaches for personalized medicine.

Computational techniques and medical informatics have enabled the integration of diverse data sources, including genomic, proteomic, and clinical data, to tailor medical treatments to individual patients. By leveraging machine learning algorithms, big data analytics, and bioinformatics, researchers are developing models that can predict treatment responses, optimize drug dosages, and identify potential adverse effects.

Advancing computational approaches for personalized medicine facilitates the development of more effective and targeted therapies, minimizing the reliance on trial-and-error in treatment selection. Recent advances, such as the application of artificial intelligence in predicting patient responses to therapies and the integration of electronic health records with genomic data, have demonstrated significant promise in enhancing clinical decision-making. Continued research in this area can lead to more robust models that account for the complexities of individual patient profiles, ultimately improving healthcare delivery and outcomes.

This Collection aims to explore specific computational methodologies and their applications in personalized medicine, highlighting the transformative potential of these technologies in improving patient outcomes.
