BMC Medical Education welcomes submissions to the Regional and international policies in medical education Collection. This Collection aims to showcase research examining accreditation shaping factors and standards, workforce development, competency-based education, and collaborative initiatives. By understanding the impact of these policies, we can enhance medical training and improve healthcare outcomes globally.

Suhad Daher-Nashif, PhD, MSc, Keele University, UK

Dr Daher-Nashif is Lecturer in Sociology and Anthropology of Health and Program Director for MSc in Global Healthcare Leadership in the School of Medicine at Keele University. Her research dismantles the intersectional dynamics between science, society, politics, and bureaucracy within three main fields: medical education, mental health, and post-mortem practices. She’s mainly interested in exploring how religion, culture and politics play role in structuring medical practices and health policies. Dr Daher-Nashif’s research focuses on Arab and Muslim communities in the Middle East and North Africa region, and recently within European contexts. She is currently completing her second MSc in Clinical Education. Dr Daher-Nashif has been acting as invited reviewer in many academic journals, and currently a board member BMC Medical Education and PLOS ONE. She is also active reviewer of abstracts for international conferences on health education such as AMEE 2022 and 2023. She was also awarded the research runner up award by AMEE 2023.
 

Chengxiang Tang, PhD, Beijing Jiaotong University, China

Dr Tang is a research fellow at Beijing Jiaotong University. His interdisciplinary research interests and experience include health system, health policy, health reform, medical education, and health economics. He is also interested in gifted child education because his son has gifts in geography and mathematics. He has a research track record in multiple journals, including Health Systems & Reform, Nature Human Behaviour, Health Economics, Health Policy and Planning, American Journal of Public Health, Human Resources for Health, Future Generation Computer Systems, Scientific Reports, Physica A. He has served as an Associate Editor for BMC Medical Education since 2019. 
 

Hongbin Wu, PhD, Peking University, China

Dr Wu is an Associate Professor at the National Centre for Health Professions Education Development at Peking University. He is also the Program Leader of WISDOM and a member of the leadership team of the National Center for Health Professions Education Development. He holds a PhD from Peking University, focusing on health professions education research since 2017. In recent years, he is committed to advancing the scientific and professional development of medical education research in China. His research interests include medical student selection/choice and development, medical education management and policy evaluation, as well as learning science and educational technology.

About the Collection

BMC Medical Education is calling for submissions to our Collection on Regional and international policies in medical education. As healthcare systems evolve, regional and international policies  play a crucial role in structuring and standardizing training programs, ensuring quality assurance, and addressing workforce challenges. Understanding these policies is essential for educators, institutions, and policymakers striving to improve medical education and align it with global health needs.

This Collection aims to explore the influence of regional and international policies on medical education, examining both challenges and innovations in implementation. We welcome submissions that provide critical analyses, comparative studies, and evidence-based recommendations for policy development and reform.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

  • National and international accreditation standards for medical schools and training programs
  • Policies on competency-based medical education and curriculum standardization
  • Government and institutional strategies for addressing physician workforce shortages and distribution
  • The role of international collaborations and exchange programs in medical education
  • The impact of regulatory frameworks on medical licensing and continuing professional development
  • The integration of emerging technologies (e.g. digital, virtual and augmented reality, AI, telemedicine, and wearable) in medical training policies
  • Ethical and legal considerations in the formulation and enforcement of medical education policies
