BMC Global and Public Health is calling for submissions to our Collection on the health challenges and public health responses emerging from our changing environment. The Collection aims to bring together research that explores the complex interplay between environmental factors and respiratory health, highlighting solutions to mitigate risks, decrease the carbon footprint of healthcare systems, and improve outcomes for vulnerable populations worldwide.
The goal of this Collection is to advance understanding of how climate, pollution, and extreme weather impact respiratory diseases and to present strategies for effective public health interventions. We welcome original research and comprehensive reviews that address, but are not limited to, the following subtopics:
- The physiological effects of air pollution on lung development and chronic respiratory conditions.
- Social, economic, and health inequities influencing exposure to climate-related respiratory health risks.
- Adaptation strategies for urban planning and policy to reduce pollution and protect vulnerable communities.
- The impact of extreme heat and humidity on respiratory health and emergency care needs.
- Strategies to enhance resilience in healthcare systems to address climate-driven respiratory health challenges.
- Community-based approaches to reducing exposure to pollutants and heat.
- Decreasing the carbon footprint of healthcare.
We encourage work from local, regional, national, and global partnerships and collaboration among multidisciplinary scientists using multiple methodologies. We ask that authors be careful to use non-stigmatizing/preferred language in their manuscripts as outlined in relevant language guidelines for their respective fields.
Through this Collection, BMC Global and Public Health aims to provide a platform for research that bridges the gap between environmental science and healthcare, offering solutions that are accessible, evidence-based, and equitable. We seek contributions that will drive actionable insights and foster innovation in public health responses to environmental change.
This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 13: Climate Action.
