About the Collection

BMC Nursing is calling for submissions to our Collection, Care for the aging population. The aging population presents unique challenges and opportunities for healthcare systems worldwide. As individuals live longer, the demand for specialized nursing care tailored to the needs of older adults has never been more critical. Nursing older people encompasses a range of practices aimed at promoting health, managing chronic diseases, and providing compassionate care. This Collection seeks to explore various approaches and evidence-based practices in nursing that address the complexities of aging, including the management of chronic conditions, dementia care, palliative and end-of-life care.

Advancing our collective understanding of care for the aging population is essential for improving health outcomes and enhancing the quality of life for older adults. Recent advances in gerontological nursing have highlighted the importance of comprehensive geriatric assessment, interdisciplinary collaboration, and health promotion strategies tailored to older adults. Research has also underscored the significance of palliative care in addressing the unique needs of individuals facing life limiting conditions, ensuring that they receive dignified and respectful care throughout their aging journey.

Looking ahead, continued research in this field holds the potential for developing nursing interventions that can better address the multifaceted needs of the aging population. Future studies may focus on integrating technology into elderly care, enhancing caregiver training, and exploring new models of care delivery that prioritize patient-centered approaches. By fostering a deeper understanding of the aging process and its implications for health, we can improve the overall well-being of older adults and their families.

We invite all article types contributing to the examination of topics relating to care for the aging population, including but not limited to:

  • Health promotion strategies for older adults
  • Geriatric assessment and its impact on care
  • Chronic disease management in older adults
  • Innovative nursing interventions for older person care
  • Integrated care for older people to improve outcomes
  • Palliative and end-of-life care for the aging population
