BMC Global and Public Health is calling for submissions to our Collection on ensuring equality in vaccine access and addressing global inadequacies. In light of current global health challenges and recurring public health emergencies, equitable vaccine allocation has emerged as a critical issue that demands urgent attention. Disparities in access to vaccines highlight systemic inequalities that hinder efforts to achieve global health security and promote health equity.

Chuanxi Fu, PhD, Zhejiang Chinese Medical University, China

Dr. Fu's research focuses on assessing the burden of infectious diseases, vaccine hesitancy, and the history of ancient vaccines. His team utilizes real-world data, disease surveillance, and field research to build comprehensive datasets. They apply epidemiological methods and mathematical modeling to evaluate the impact on vulnerable groups. Additionally, they are developing a network to monitor vaccine hesitancy among specific demographics in China, identifying its characteristics, and creating strategies to address emerging challenges.

Marguerite Massinga Loembé, MSc, PhD, Independent Consultant, Health Systems Strengthening and Diagnostics, Gabon

Dr. Marguerite Massinga Loembé is a consultant senior laboratory advisor with Africa CDC and is in charge of National Public Health Institutes and National Laboratory Networks reinforcement. She is a member of the Stop TB Partnership Global Laboratory Initiative (GLI) core group and a rGLC laboratory consultant for programmatic management of drug-resistant tuberculosis. Dr. Massinga Loembé has more than 15 years of experience working in Africa at the interface of clinical research (phase I to III trials) and national laboratory systems reinforcement for better infectious disease control. She aims to foster better linkages between researchers, policymakers, and national health authorities to ensure better uptake of new recommendations and technologies and to scale up new diagnostic tools.

In light of current global health challenges and recurring public health emergencies, equitable vaccine allocation has emerged as a critical issue that demands urgent attention. Disparities in access to vaccines highlight systemic inequalities that hinder efforts to achieve global health security and promote health equity.

This Collection aims to showcase cutting-edge research examining the multifaceted barriers to vaccine access and strategies to overcome them. We invite contributions that explore innovative approaches, evidence-based interventions, policy analyses, and community engagement efforts aimed at promoting equitable vaccine distribution worldwide. This Collection supports and amplifies research related to:

  • Social determinants of vaccine access
  • Community engagement in vaccine implementation
  • Global partnerships for equitable vaccine allocation and distribution
  • Policy interventions to address vaccine inequities
  • Initiatives to fast-track vaccine R&D

This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being and SDG 10: Reduced Inequalities.
