BMC Rheumatology is calling for submissions to our Collection on Emerging therapies for psoriatic arthritis. This Collection aims to shed light on the latest developments, challenges, and implications of emerging therapies for psoriatic arthritis. Psoriatic arthritis is an inflammatory joint condition that often accompanies the chronic skin disorder psoriasis. Characterized by pain, swelling, and stiffness in the joints, psoriatic arthritis can significantly impact the quality of life for those affected. Current treatment approaches encompass a range of options, including nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) for symptom relief, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs) to slow disease progression, biologics targeting specific immune pathways, corticosteroids for short-term relief, and lifestyle modifications. However, despite available treatments, there remains a need for continued research and the exploration of emerging therapies to address the varying manifestations and complexities of psoriatic arthritis.
The emergence of novel therapies for psoriatic arthritis offers the potential to revolutionize treatment paradigms and improve patient outcomes. Challenges currently faced in managing psoriatic arthritis include treatment resistance, side effects of existing medications, and the heterogeneous nature of the disease. Understanding and addressing these challenges are crucial for advancing therapeutic options. Investigating emerging therapies can provide insights into mechanisms not targeted by current treatments, offering new avenues for intervention and potentially more effective management strategies.
This collection welcomes submissions on topics including but not limited to:
- Mechanisms of action of emerging therapies
- Clinical trial outcomes and safety profiles
- Comparative effectiveness studies
- Patient-reported outcomes and quality of life assessments
- Identification of biomarkers for treatment response
- Challenges and opportunities in translating research findings into clinical practice
- Personalized medicine approaches in the management of psoriatic arthritis
All manuscripts submitted to this journal, including those submitted to collections and special issues, are assessed in line with our editorial policies and the journal’s peer review process. Reviewers and editors are required to declare competing interests and can be excluded from the peer review process if a competing interest exists.
