Ashish Kc, Ph.D., University of Gothenburg, Sweden

A physician and perinatal epidemiologist, Associate Professor in Global Health and Senior Lecturer at the University of Gothenburg. With 12+ years of experience as a clinician, program manager, and technical advisor to UN and NGOs, he has led health sector reforms and national plans. Recipient of the Royal Swedish Academy and SIGHT awards in 2021, and the Researcher Excellence Award by Uppsala University. He has mentored 5+ PhD and 15+ Master's students, edited for several journals, and published 140+ peer-reviewed articles.


About the Collection

This special issue is dedicated to showcasing pioneering research, and interventions aimed at reducing maternal and neonatal mortality, in alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 3 (SDG3). The issue will feature a diverse array of studies that highlight innovative healthcare delivery models, emphasizing their effectiveness in improving maternal and neonatal health outcomes.

A significant focus will be placed on the transformative role of technology and artificial intelligence in healthcare settings. Articles will explore how these advancements are being leveraged to enhance diagnostic accuracy, streamline patient care, and facilitate timely interventions. Additionally, the issue will delve into community-based as well as facility-based interventions that have shown promise in addressing the unique challenges faced by different populations, particularly in low-resource settings.

Policy reforms and policy analysis are another critical area of interest. The special issue will examine policy landscape as well legislative and regulatory changes that have been taken to support maternal and neonatal health, assessing their impact and identifying best practices.

Moreover, the importance of global collaborations and partnerships will be a key theme. The issue will highlight successful examples of international cooperation, showcasing how shared knowledge and resources can drive significant improvements in health outcomes.

By bringing together these varied perspectives and approaches, this special issue aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the current landscape and future directions in the fight against maternal and neonatal mortality. It seeks to inspire further research, policy development, and collaborative efforts to achieve SDG3 and ensure healthier futures for mothers and newborns worldwide.

This Collection welcomes submission of original research and review articles. Should you wish to submit a different article type, please read our submission guidelines to confirm that type is accepted by the journal. 

Articles for this Collection should be submitted via our submission system, Snapp. Please, select the appropriate Collection title “Innovative Approaches to Reducing Maternal and Neonatal Mortality" under the “Details” tab during the submission stage.

Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.
