About the Collection

One Health Advances invites participating authors to submit to our Collection on 'Integral Ecology as a light to foster the One-Health approach'. The Collection is devoted to highly qualified selected papers from the 4th International One-Health Conference, which will take place in Rome, Italy, focusing on the principles of Integral Ecology and Human Ecology. This conference emphasizes the interconnectedness of human, animal, and environmental health.

Integral Ecology, a concept central to Pope Francis' encyclical Laudato Si', promotes a holistic understanding of the environment, acknowledging the complex web of relationships among all living organisms and the ecosystems they inhabit. This comprehensive perspective aligns with the One Health framework, which seeks to address global health challenges through a collaborative, multi-sectoral approach, acknowledging that human health is inextricably linked with the health of animals and the environment.

Human Ecology complements this framework by examining the dynamic relationships between humans and their natural, social, and built environments. It recognizes the idea that human well-being depends on the health of ecosystems and the implementation of sustainable practices. By bringing together diverse fields, this conference fosters interdisciplinary collaboration, to develop comprehensive strategies that promote the health of all species and ecosystems alike.

By integrating these ecological perspectives, this issue will welcome submissions related to the conference’s key themes, including emerging infectious diseases, climate change, biodiversity loss. These topics highlight the urgent need for sustainable development practices that maintain the balance of natural systems, while safeguarding human health. We encourage all participants and experts working in these domains to contribute your work to further the scientific dialogue initiated by the conference and to address pressing global challenges. Ultimately, aiming to contribute to the creation of a healthier, more sustainable planet for future generations, advocating for resilience in the face of planetary health challenges.
