BMC Complementary Medicine and Therapies is calling for submissions to our Collection on Natural products and therapies in the dental field.

The use of natural products and therapies in dentistry has gained significant attention as a complementary approach to traditional dental treatments. With a rich history rooted in traditional medicine, natural products such as herbal extracts, essential oils, and other bioactive compounds are being explored for their potential benefits in managing oral diseases, enhancing oral health, and promoting gum health. Recent studies have highlighted the antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties of various natural substances, paving the way for innovative therapies that can address common dental issues such as caries and periodontal disease.

Fayez Hussain Niazi, MSc, MPhil, Dar Al Uloom University, Saudi Arabia

Fayez Hussain Niazi is an experienced clinician with extensive experience in research. Fayez Hussain Niazi finished his Master’s in philosophy in Oral biology at the Ziauddin University whilst working full time at Dar Al Uloom University, College of Dentistry, Department of Prosthetic and Restorative Dentistry in Riyadh. Fayez Hussain Niazi is currently enrolled in PhD program at Universiti Sains Malaysia. His clinical interests are endodontics and restorative dentistry.

Edilson Martins Rodrigues Neto, PhD, Federal University of Ceara, Brazil

Dr Edilson Martins Rodrigues Neto is a Pharmacist and Dentist. He is a postgraduate supervisor of Drug Development in Pharmacy College of Federal University of Ceara and Biotechnology in Veterinary Medicine at State University of Ceara. He is currently working on research with pharmaceutical forms for release in the oral cavity for the treatment and prevention of local and systemic conditions.

The topics of interest include but are not limited to:

  • Herbal extracts in the treatment of oral diseases


Advancing our collective understanding of natural products in the dental field is crucial for developing safe, effective, and sustainable treatment options. Important advances have already been made, including the identification of specific natural compounds that exhibit promising antimicrobial activity against oral pathogens and the exploration of their synergistic effects with conventional treatments.
