BMC Medical Imaging is calling for submissions to our Collection on Nanotechnology for medical imaging. Nanotechnology represents a promising avenue in medical imaging, offering precise targeting and enhanced contrast capabilities. This Collection welcomes papers exploring the evolving field of nanotechnologies in medical imaging for improved contrast, resolution, biocompatibility and targeting, their application in novel imaging modalities and theranostics, and their preclinical and clinical evaluation. Together, these contributions offer insights into how nanostructures may advance diagnostic imaging across various medical conditions in the future.

Fernando Herranz, PhD, Deputy director Instituto de Química Médica CSIC, Spain

Dr Fernando Herranz is a chemist interested in the combined use of biomedical imaging, nanotechnology and supramolecular chemistry. His work focuses on the application of these disciplines for the in vivo characterization of atherosclerosis and other vascular diseases. Currently, he is also interested in developing theranostic agents for glioblastoma. Herranz’ multidisciplinary group is located in the Instituto de Química Médica part of the Spanish Research Council (CSIC) in Madrid.

Zhen Yuan, PhD, Director of Centre for Cognitive and Neuroscience, University of Macau, China

Dr Yuan is a full professor with the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS)/Centre for Cognitive and Brain Sciences at University of Macau (UM). His research mainly focuses on biomedical optics, optical molecular imaging, neuroscience and neuroimaging. Professor Yuan has published over 300 papers in high profile journals in his research fields. He is an editorial board member of Quantitative Imaging in Medicine and Surgery and BMC Medical Imaging, and associate editor of Frontiers in Human Neuroscience.

BMC Medical Imaging is calling for submissions to our Collection on Nanotechnology for medical imaging.

Nanotechnology represents a promising avenue in medical imaging, offering precise targeting and enhanced contrast capabilities. By their properties or by encapsulating imaging agents, nanostructures enable better visualization of target tissues. With the demand for non-invasive, sensitive diagnostics rising, nanostructures hold immense promise in enhancing imaging modalities for improved disease detection and monitoring. They address limitations of conventional imaging techniques, promising improved sensitivity, specificity, and spatial resolution. With healthcare increasingly emphasizing early disease detection and personalized treatment, nanostructures offer a path towards more effective clinical interventions. Their potential to navigate biological barriers and provide real-time imaging feedback could significantly impact patient outcomes.

This Collection welcomes papers exploring the evolving field of nanotechnologies in medical imaging for improved contrast, resolution, biocompatibility and targeting, their application in novel imaging modalities and theranostics, and their preclinical and clinical evaluation. Together, these contributions offer insights into how nanostructures may advance diagnostic imaging across various medical conditions in the future.
