BMC Veterinary Research called for submissions to our Collection on Precision veterinary medicine. Advancements in technology enable veterinarians to customize care for each animal, resulting in more precise diagnoses, tailored therapies, and the potential to deepen our grasp on zoonotic diseases and ecosystem health while elevating animal care standards. This Collection provided a platform for researchers to share their work and promote discussions on precise, effective, and compassionate healthcare for animals.

Jose J. Ceron, Interlab-UMU, University of Murcia, Spain

Jose Ceron is Professor at Murcia University, Diplomate of the European College of Veterinary Clinical Pathology and member of the Academia Europea. His main research interests are related to biomarkers of health and welfare especially in non-invasive samples, both in the development and validation of assays and also in their clinical applications. One of his favorite activities is to collaborate and interact with other research groups on these topics.
 

Carlos E. Fonseca-Alves, DVM, MSc, PhD, Paulista University – UNIP​​​​​​​, Brazil

Dr Carlos E. Fonseca-Alves is a veterinary clinical oncologist and has been employed with the School of Veterinary Medicine at Paulista University (UNIP) since 2019. His main roles include teaching veterinary students and supervising MSc and PhD students in projects related to Molecular Oncology. His main areas of interest include the molecular biology of cancer in dogs and cats, clinical trials on personalized cancer treatment, and the epigenetic mechanism of cancer in dogs and cats. He is the director of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital at UNIP.

About the Collection

BMC Veterinary Research called for submissions to our Collection on Precision veterinary medicine. With technological innovations rapidly evolving, precision veterinary medicine allows veterinarians to tailor care to the individual needs of each animal, leading to more accurate diagnoses and targeted therapies. This approach not only enhances the quality of care for animals but also holds the potential to advance our understanding of zoonotic diseases and ecosystem health.

We invited submissions of original research articles, reviews, case studies, and perspectives that explore the multifaceted aspects of precision veterinary medicine. Potential topics included, but were not limited to:

• Genomic and individualized care
• Data-driven healthcare
• Genetic and epigenetic biomarkers
• Biomarkers in non-invasive samples 
• Advanced imaging techniques
• Molecular guided veterinary medicine
• Personalized treatment and preventive care

This Collection provided a platform for researchers to share their work and promote discussions on precise, effective, and compassionate healthcare for animals.

All manuscripts submitted to this journal, including those submitted to collections and special issues, are assessed in line with our editorial policies and the journal’s peer review process. Reviewers and editors are required to declare competing interests and can be excluded from the peer review process if a competing interest exists.

Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all of the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.

The Editors have no competing interests with the submissions which they handle through the peer review process. The peer review of any submissions for which the Editors have competing interests is handled by another Editorial Board Member who has no competing interests.
