About the Collection

BMC Medical Informatics and Decision Making is calling for submissions to our Collection on Challenges in health data management.

Medical data management plays a critical role in healthcare, as the volume, dynamic changes and diversity of data continue to grow. From electronic health records (EHRs) and clinical trial data to real-time data from wearable devices and patient-reported outcomes, healthcare systems face the challenge of managing vast and complex datasets. Effective data management not only ensures that data is accurate and accessible but also drives advancements in clinical decision-making, personalized treatment, and patient-centered care. To meet such needs, several challenges have to be overcome, such as heterogeneity of data, system incompatibility, and data security. An effective system to manage health data can address these issues through further data integration and standardization to enable seamless interoperability across diverse healthcare systems. Innovations in data privacy and security will also be crucial as we navigate the ethical implications of data use.
