About the Collection

BMC Surgery is calling for submissions to our collection, Vascular surgery: innovations and best practices.

Vascular surgery has undergone significant evolution over the past few decades, marked by technological advancements and the development of new surgical techniques. These innovations have transformed the field, enabling more effective treatment options for a range of vascular conditions, including peripheral artery disease, carotid artery stenosis, and varicose veins. As minimally invasive techniques, such as angioplasty and stenting, gain prominence, the need for a comprehensive understanding of their application in clinical practice becomes increasingly vital. This Collection aims to highlight these innovations and share best practices that can optimize patient outcomes in vascular surgery.

Advancements in vascular surgery can improve the overall quality of patient care and enhance surgical success rates. Recent developments have led to the refinement of techniques and tools that not only minimize patient recovery time but also reduce the risk of complications. The emergence of bioengineered vascular grafts and the integration of digital technology into surgical planning have further revolutionized treatment paradigms. Understanding these advances allows healthcare professionals to better tailor their approaches to individual patient needs, ultimately leading to improved long-term outcomes.

We invite submissions from all aspects of this field, including, but not limited to:

  • Innovations in vascular graft materials
  • Advances in carotid endarterectomy techniques
  • Outcomes of stenting versus angioplasty
  • Minimally invasive approaches for varicose vein treatment
  • Vascular suture techniques
  • Large vessel surgery
  • Microvascular surgery and anastomosis
  • Innovations in pelvic venous diseases
  • Current endovascular solutions in venous diseases
  • Venous thrombectomy for acute and chronic thrombus

Continued research in this field holds promise for the future, with the potential to pioneer even more sophisticated surgical techniques and therapies. As our understanding of vascular biology deepens, we may see innovations in regenerative medicine, including the development of bioengineered tissues that could replace damaged vessels. Furthermore, advancements in telemedicine and remote monitoring may facilitate ongoing patient management, enhancing postoperative care and reducing hospital readmissions.
