About the Collection

BMC Health Services Research is calling for submissions to our Collection on Improving access to tuberculosis preventive treatment.

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a significant public health challenge, contributing to morbidity and mortality worldwide. Despite the availability of effective preventive treatments, access to these interventions is often limited by various barriers, including healthcare infrastructure, socio-economic factors, and stigma associated with the disease. Understanding these challenges is crucial for devising strategies to enhance access and uptake of TB preventive treatments, particularly in high-burden regions. This Collection aims to gather research that addresses the complexities surrounding access to TB preventive measures, emphasizing the importance of innovative approaches in health service delivery.

Addressing the accessibility of TB preventive treatment is essential not only for controlling the spread of TB but also for achieving broader public health goals. Recent advances, including the development of shorter preventive treatment regimens and improved diagnostic tools, have shown promise in enhancing treatment adherence and outcomes. Furthermore, community engagement and the integration of TB prevention into primary healthcare services have the potential to significantly improve access, especially for vulnerable populations who face barriers to care.

 Topics for submission:

  • Barriers to accessing tuberculosis prevention
  • Access and innovation in TB tests
  • Innovations in tuberculosis preventive treatment
  • Community engagement in TB prevention
  • Integration of TB prevention in primary healthcare
