This collection aims to address the multifaceted issue of violence in emergency departments (EDs) worldwide, exploring its causes, impacts, and potential solutions. We invite researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to submit their proposals on the following topics

About the Collection

The International Journal of Emergency Medicine is calling for submissions to our Collection on “Violence in the Emergency Department: Responding to a Global Crisis.” This collection aims to address the multifaceted issue of violence in emergency departments (EDs) worldwide, exploring its causes, impacts, and potential solutions. We invite researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to submit their proposals on the following topics:

 • Epidemiology and risk factors of violence in the emergency department

• Prevention strategies, including de-escalation training, security interventions, and involvement with the legal system

• Institutional policies and legal frameworks to prevent violence in the emergency department

• Impact of violence on staff well-being and the psychological impact

• Innovations in staff support, crisis response, and trauma recovery

We seek contributions that provide empirical research, case studies, theoretical analyses, and reviews that offer new insights and practical solutions. Submissions should aim to advance our understanding of the issue and propose actionable strategies to mitigate violence in emergency departments.

This Collection welcomes submission of empirical research, case studies, theoretical analyses, and reviews. Should you wish to submit a different article type, please read our submission guidelines to confirm that type is accepted by the journal. 

Articles for this Collection should be submitted via our submission system, Snapp. Please, select the appropriate Collection title “Violence in the Emergency Department: Responding to a Global Crisis” under the “Details” tab during the submission stage.

Articles will undergo the journal’s standard peer-review process and are subject to all the journal’s standard policies. Articles will be added to the Collection as they are published.
