BMC Rheumatology welcomes submissions to the Innovations in the diagnosis and treatment of gout Collection. This Collection aims to advance our understanding of gout and ultimately improve patient care and outcomes. We welcome contributions from researchers on the innovations and advances related to the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of gout. We invite papers that explore novel approaches to understanding the pathophysiology of gout, and development of advanced diagnostic tools.

John D. FitzGerald, MD, PhD, University of California, USA

John D. FitzGerald is a Rheumatologist with research focus on Crystal Arthritis. He is based at Veterans Affairs, Greater Los Angeles and is a Professor of Medicine with UCLA Rheumatology. He has led national quality of care efforts for the management of gout, including the American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 2020 Gout Guidelines for the management of acute gout and management of hyperuricemia and the ACR Gout Quality Measures.

About the Collection

BMC Rheumatology is calling for submissions to our Innovations in the diagnosis and treatment of gout collection. This Collection attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of the current advancements in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of gout, while emphasizing the critical role of lifestyle modifications in managing the disease. It aims to explore novel therapeutic approaches, the importance of early diagnosis, and preventive measures including but not limited to:
 

  • Innovative diagnostic techniques
  • New treatment modalities (pharmacological and non-pharmacological)
  • Advancements in preventive strategies


Through this compilation, we hope to contribute to the ongoing evolution of gout care and encourage interdisciplinary collaboration for enhanced patient support and well-being.

All manuscripts submitted to this journal, including those submitted to collections and special issues, are assessed in line with our editorial policies and the journal’s peer review process. Reviewers and editors are required to declare competing interests and can be excluded from the peer review process if a competing interest exists.

This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being
